Alaine Beek wrote a monologue ‘A Good Coffee’ late 2019 and entered this play in the Arkfest 2020 festival which invites playwrights from all round Australia to submit short scripts. ‘A Good Coffee’ was one of 25 accepted out of 165. It is based on the author’s personal experience of living with an abusive person. The festival was held in Lilydale early March and a group from Wyndham Theatre Company attending the festival booking overnight accommodation to fully enjoy the experience. A then member of WTC Elle Parkinson was the actor in this monologue. Alaine directed the play, and was thrilled to win Best Script and People’s Choice for Best Production. They also won a number of silver awards.
