March 2023 Newsletter

Hi everyone, hoping you have enjoyed the recent warmer weather of summer. We had our first play reading late

January and have been getting ready for the upcoming Wyndham Volunteer Expo and WOMPA short play event.

Play Readings

We recently had our first open play reading for 2023 featuring the excellent Ray Cooney and John Chapman play “Move Over Mrs Markham. We had 9 attends with a couple of late cancelations. It was a great night of play reading with plenty of character swaps and refreshments to break up the evening. We are planning another reading soon and will put the invite out on our website.

WOMPA

We are pleased to announce that our 2 short plays we entered in the WOMPA EVENT for this year have both been accepted. The plays were written by our own talented Ric MacInerney so congratulations Ric. We will soon be sending out our audition notices for both plays so keep a look out for these over the next week.

WOMPA is short for – West of Melbourne Performing Arts. Essence Productions is excited to be running this event (in conjunction with Wyndham Cultural Centre) a new one-act play festival. Theme of play – living in the West of Melbourne.

All plays will be performed at the Wyndham Cultural Centre Theatre and awards given on Sunday May 7th.

If you are interested in auditioning drop us a note thru our contact page on our website and we will ensure you get an audition notification with all the character descriptions and audition dates.

Wyndham Volunteer Expo

We are pleased to announce that we will have a stall at the Volunteer Expo Saturday 18 March 2023 at the Encore Event Centre.

If you have thought about getting involved in Community Theatre but are still undecided drop into the Expo and call into our stall. We would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have around volunteering with our company.

We are pleased to share our stall with Essence Productions who do some fabulous plays at the Werribee Park Mansion. They have some fantastic programs for youth this year so you can talk to them and get some info as to their programs and options.

We see this as an important event to communicate with the Wyndham community re our volunteer opportunities in the Performing Arts. We hope to see you there.

As we build up our 2023 program, we are looking for new members to join the company. Remember to look at our website for updates and feel free to contact us via the website if you are interested in being involved in community theatre.

Best Wishes,

Alan Thompson
