May 2023 Newsletter

Hi everyone, well winter has finally caught up with us with the smell of outdoor BBQs being overtaken by burning log fires. It has been a busy time for the company with attending Wyndham’s Volunteer expo and rehearsing for WOMPA which has come and gone culminating with performances at the Wyndham Cultural Centre.

Play Readings

Our next play reading is planed for the 19 June. It’s a casual evening so register your interest thru the contact page on the website where you will find the details. We are planning to read Boeing Boeing a comedy written by French playwright Marc Camoletti. The English language adaptation, translated by Beverley Cross. It was first stage in London at the Apollo Theatre.

WOMPA

We rehearsed two short plays written by Ric McInerney for WOMPA. It was great chance for new members to our company to get some experience on stage without having to learn a full page. Everyone enjoyed the experience.

WOMPA is short for – West of Melbourne Performing Arts. Essence Productions ran this event (in conjunction with Wyndham Cultural Centre) . We congratulate them on this event and hope to do it again next year.

The photos below in order shown include our The Last Stretch Cast Lisa, Gemma and Paul, Ric the playwright for the 2 plays he wrote that we performed. receiving his certificates for both his plays being selected. Our cast of Airs and Manors, Paul, Ineke, Sahana, Vicki, Gemma, and Mia. All the cast participants, playwrights, and directors.

Wyndham Volunteer Expo

We had a stall at the Volunteer Expo Saturday 18 March 2023 at the Encore Event Centre.

We met 30 + residents interested in getting involved in Community Theatre. A number of those became involved in our WOMPA casts. We shared our stall with Essence Productions. Vicki and Pam helped me setup and Alaine, Myself manned the stall with Pam giving us a break. It was great to chat with everyone about all thing’s theatre. You can still contact us via our website, and we would be to answer any questions or concerns you have around volunteering with our company.

Next Annual General Meeting

Please note our next AGM is planned for the first Monday the 3rd of July. If you are interested in attending further information is available on our website.

End of year Production

For our end of year production, we are proposing to reprise Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol. This was our first play we did at our Crossroads Theatre 15 years ago. Since that time, we have done over 90 performances and who can remember how many auditions and rehearsals at Crossroads.

Watch out for future updates and audition timing.

Best Wishes,

Alan Thompson

President
